Missing mommy! POTD 4.18.07

This is Solomon, my nephew. I watch him periodically when his mom goes to work. Normally he does not even notice when mom leaves, but lately he's been going through mommy withdrawls. It's so pathetic and unfortunately there is not a whole lot I can do, other than just love on him and let him know it's ok. Oh, and animal crackers do wonders too;)

I took these on the TVmode, felt like expanding my horizon a bit. I set the SS to 125, kept the ISO at 400 and the camera chose 1.8 for the aperture. I was skeptical because I like both eyes to be in focus and with 1.8...it's really hard to do. (at least for me it is) When I uploaded them to the computer, I kinda liked that really narrow DOF on these. Several asked about the soft light layer and I'll tell you what I do, although I'm so new to it...not sure if I'm qualified to instruct. I first do a light defog-10-30-0. Then I do any levels/curves/color adjustment. Then, on a duplicate layer, I select soft light and adjust the opacity to 15%. Then, if I'm going to post online, I try to sharpen for web at 50-1-1.

I like how you captured what looks like a tear that either fell or is about to fall.
Thanks for the instructions...little over my head yet, but I'll get there.

This is gorgeous, Heather, and I'm jealous that you can focus on a 1.8. Love the ultrasound profile too. thanks for the exposure and workflow info, I'll try that one so some of my pictures. I hope you are doing well.
