Hidden talent REVEALED, beware...lots of photos! POTD 2-16-07

I play the French horn...have since 7th grade and I'm now almost 30! It's tremendous therapy for me, something I'm really good at. When I first began playing, I was barely big enough to carry it on the bus. My parents were so worried about me carrying it to and from school everyday. I was determined to make it work though, stubborn even then. My hands were so small, that my instructor hot glued dimes so that my hands would not slip off while playing. I never took them off because they were part of what made my horn, mine. You can't tell from these pics, but...my horn is pretty worn in. What I mean is that some of the finish has worn off and it's in desperate need of a bath, but it's the best sounding horn I've ever played. I had the chance to have a brand new horn in high school, but I opted out of that oppurtunity because the tone to this horn cannot be duplicated. Because of the condition its in , I converted to BnW to hide some of the inperfections. Now I get to play it in front of my DS, hoping to instill a love for music in his heart. I played it all through my pregnancy and when I got farther along, he would move and groove everytime I played it...I loved that! I have to say that every now and then, I get really excited about pictures and I'm pretty sure these will be among my favorites. I may actually try and frame a few of these...sorry there are more than 5, kinda went crazy with the shots!

I love these! Especially #3 the contrast and composition is rocking!

I also really enjoyed reading your post. Makes me feel guilty for not continuing to play the violin. I started in 5th grade and played through high school, but now I am not sure if I'd even know where to begin if I picked up a violin. Much to my mom's dismay!

Very cool! Love all of the different angles you took this shots at. I've played the clarinet since 4th grade and the piano since I was like 4 or 5 - my grandma taught me and now I am the proud owner of the piano! TFS!

Heather-- no kidding- those are fabulous. I'm thinking of taking my dd out of Karate and getting her into music! All we have now is a preschool recorder! lol!
Fantastic conversions, angles, and lots of sharp shots!

These shots are stunning! I love the story too. I understand why it was so hard to choose. I agree, you should frame them!

I used to play the flute in HS and never really put any effort into practicing. I sold it when I graduated, but I often think about buying another and learning again.

Heather these shots are fabulous. Love the angle and the DOF. That third one in particular is stunning. These would be so cool framed. Hey, that's a pretty amazing hidden talent.

WOW! These are beautiful! I love all the different angles you captured. You totally need to print and frame these - BIG! It totally brings back memories....I also played french horn from 7th-12th grade (and even had dimes glued on mine too!). I quit playing after HS, but my roommate in college was a music performance major and also played french horn, so I got to continue my love of the instrument through her.

These are amazing! I play the piano, but I doubt I could get shots that compare :-)

I think I love #3 the most - something about the lines, the composition. It's very interesting!

Beautiful! Your love of your horn came through loud and clear in all of these. I'd have a hard time choosing too.
I love the dimes, that adds so much to the story1

These are beautiful! I can just see them matted in white with a black frame.

These are great! I tried with my violin.. but they didn't work too dark and too cold to take it outside. Love these.

Love your French horn shots, especially since my older DS used to play and my younger DS plays now and has been since 5th grade (7th grade now). I too feel sorry for him having to carry that big thing around, but it's a character builder ;-). I could see these shots in a storyboard hanging in a music room. You gave me a great idea for my living room.

These are amazing! I do hope that you plan on printing and framing these. They would make a wonderful wall collage!
